Instead of writing a review of every book in the series (13 in all atm), I figured I would write one big one on the series itself.

I first picked up Sandford because I had heard that he was from St Paul and wrote about that area and the area surounding MN, including WI, IA, and SD. Since I'm familiar with the Twin Cities, I figured it would be fun to read a bok set in an area that I know about instead of reading about places like New York or California.

The "Prey" series is a murder/thriller series revolving around a dectective from the Minneapolis police by the name of Lucas Davenport. He's a rough and tough cop that's familiar in the Cities because of the number of cases he's broke and the number of people he's shot, which doesn't sit very well with many people.

Each book revolves around Davenport and his hunt for a killer that no one can seem to find. He's familiar with the people on the street and that makes for useful resources.

The killers range from the cold blooded killer that leaves behind messages about the rules of prey in the first book of the series, Rules of Prey, to a driven kidnapper who also is a gamer playing a game with Davenport in Mind Prey, to a professional hitman that happens to be a woman in Certain Prey and Mortal Prey.

If you like a good murder/thriller, Sandford's books are great and very easy reads. Even though this is a series of books, they can be read out of order to an extent, but I wouldn't recommend it due to the fact that a lot of Davenport's personal life changes over the course of the series and I would hate to see you accedently read the books where Clara Rinker and Bekker make return appearances before the first books they were in.

The best books of the series are Shadow Prey and Mind Prey in my opinion, but I enjoyed every book so far. The 14th book of the series, Naked Prey, is due out in May accourding to his web-site.

Enjoy

Sounds interesting.

Although I have primarily read fantasy and science fiction, I have read a lot of Stephen King and everything by Patricia Cornwell (about a Medical Examiner who gets involved in murder investigations; very good stuff.)

I'll see if I can pick up some of your series at the used book store next time I go.

The Destroyer series is a fun one, about Remo and Chiun, practitioners of the most deadly art of Sinanju. The movie "Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins" or somesuch was based on these books. There are over 100 in the series so far. It's kind of like The Executioner series or whatever, but these are firmly tongue-in-cheek.

Also try the Forgotten Realm series by Richard Awlinson or Douglas Niles, theres about 6 books..... One of the forgotten realm books is called Darkwalker on Moonshae, and one of the Merlin books is called The Fires of Merlin.. Ubah books =)
