I got into Robert McCammon just as he was getting out of writing. He's wrote many very good stories including Swan Song, The Wolf's Hour, and Mine. Now after taking the last 10 years off from writing, he has released a new book titled Speaks the Nightbird. This book is actually two paper backs and together come to be about 900 pages long.
The story revolves around a young magistrate's clerk named Matthew back in 1699. When the story starts, the judge and clerk are on their way to a fronteir town named Fount Royal to hear the case of an accused witch. After a nights stay in a roadside in, where they were robbed of all their possessions and barely make it out with their lives, they arrive in Fount Royal and hear the case of the witch. Matthew soon is confronted in secret about the case in which he is told that Rachel (the witch) is being set up but they don't know by who. Matthew spend his time trying to find the real killer in Fount Royal while being laughed at and accussed as falling under her spell.
Although McCammon's books tend to start out very fast, this one is a little slower paced, but in the end is a very good book. I was suprised when I saw this book sitting on the shelves, but am truely glad McCammon has finally released a new book. Hopefully this is a sign of more books to come.
