Years ago there was a very good rpg on the Playstation called Star Ocean. I played the crap outta that game and considered it a close rival to FF VII.

Now Square has released Star Ocean: Till the End of Time. This new version is simply very awesome. It mixxes together both Sci-Fi and Fantasy. The charecters are very well made up (Cliff Fitter is perhaps one of the best rpg charecters ever).

Unlike battle systems in traditional rpg's where you pick either "attack", "magic", "item", etc, in Star Ocean, you are actually moving around the battle screen attacking what you choose to attack. If you fight well enough, you can earn bonuses at the end of each battle such as triple xp or triple cash.

There is also a tradeskill system in the game where you can create new items for your chars, but I haven't seen it come into the game yet (guess I'm not far enough in).

The only thing I could see being a drawback to some people is the lengthy cut-scenes that Square can be famous for. While they develop the story-line in the game, it's common to see a 15 minute cut-scene and there is one that was close to a half hour. There is an option that you can enable to skip over these scenes and I would recommend using it, because it's not as fun to watch one of these over and over due to death.

Overall, this is one great game. I say it's the best rpg since FF IX (although Kingdom Hearts was very good too).
