View Full Version : Making the move?

Just out of curiousity, how many people are planning on making the move when EQ2 comes out? I have thought a lot about it, and I'm just not sure yet. I'm sure I will play eventually, just not sure when. But I think it would be neat, as well as an added advantage to carry this guild over into that realm. But that's just opinion. Anyway, so who's planning on making the move?

I will probably check it out but doubt I will move. Don't have time to play EQ now... Project 2 is due in a week and Homework #3 the week after that...

I will not be buying another SOE product.

I'm not going to "move". I'm going to continue to support Amichi as long as I'm enjoying the time I spend here. I enjoy helping out on raids, getting people upgrades, updating the website, etc.

I will try out EQ2 to see how it is, but doubt I will "make the jump" for quite some time. In the meantime, I might play sometimes just to see the pretty pictures and for a change of pace.

I plan on trying it out, but not right away. I'll wait for Quar to get home, so we can start our characters together. and even then it wont be right way, Im sure we will go on vacation, he'll need a new computer, and hopefully we get the orders he put in for *crosses fingers we get England* so, who knows yet.

me I will be doing both. when there are not alot of my guildmates on then I will go play 2 for a bit, but will still be around for raids and what not so long as Amichi lives.

As i will never ever again but the time and effort in to agame that i have put in to EQ, I don't believe I will be playing EQ2. WoW seems to be much more friendly towards the player that wants to play for an hour here or there. That's just my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I am already playing EQ2 hot and heavy. I will continue to go after it full tilt when the production version releases.

I will be using the same Station account that Bawd is on, so Bawd's not going anywhere. I will continue to make every Amichi raid I can. At some point, I will either decide to quit EQ1 and let my son have my toons there, or else drop EQ2 and spend all my playtime in EQ1 again. Until I decide I have no plans to buy OoW or go after my new epics or anything like that. Also haven't sent any /tells for loot in over a month I think, since I may be leaving the game somewhere down the road, putting NO DROP gear on Bawd isn't a good Amichi investment right now.

I was reading another post that spurred me...I'm gonna open this string up again, and ask the question who is planning to make the move and when? If so, how do you intend to balance the time between EQ & EQ2, if you intend to balance at all? From what I read, there are several people strongly considering the move, and that has the potential, however unlikely it might seem, to sevearly effect this guild. It would be good to know what we are looking at I think.

Not moving; I may spend 1-2 days a week in EQ2, just to build up something for variety.

I think the problem in asking this question right now is that people have not had the time to decide. It is a brand new game, it is a novelty. Once the newness and novelty wear off, people may decide that they like EQ1 better and decide to stay. Some may decide they are through with EQ1 and move on to EQ2 or even WoW. But until folks have had the time to play the game and see what they think, I don't think they will be able to answer this.

I am here until they pull the plug on Everquest 1, after that I will not play an online game like this again. It consumes so much time it is not even funny.

Lars and I have no plans to move to EQ2...or even buy it. :P However we do play Anarchy Online, which is a game you can play casually and accomplish a bit in. We only play it one or two days a week, usually after work on the days that I do work. We're thinking of checking out WoW now that it's open beta though hehe. EQ1 is still our main squeeze and we don't plan on leaving it anytime soon. :D

You're asking about play time, and in terms of play time I have "moved" for now. But I'm trying not to burn bridges. I will stay subscribed to EQ1 and after I get some initial time in EQ2 I hope to raid regularly with Amichi again. I'm in a guild on the Najena server, only because Amichi does not have an EQ2 presence at this time.

If I burn out on EQ2 like I did on DAoC, I will be "back" to EQ1. It took me 60 days in DAoC to decide that I should never have left EQ, so who knows? I plan to look at the WoW beta also.

If I decide that I don't want to play EQ1 anymore some time in the future, which is damn hard because of not playing with all of you, I will post that fact and take my toons out of the guild so that my son can get some use out of them.

For now, I'm on "leave of absence" while I get started in EQ2. I hope to be back in EQ1 a bit more in a few weeks.

I plan on checking EQ2 out over the Christmas holidays (probably along with many others). After trying SWG and trying to invest time in that game when it was "still under development (3 months after launch)" the bugs, unfinished content, presence of idiots, exploits to higher levels, lack of balance to name a few turned me off. I expect EQ2 to be the same.

These games are all about content not graphics combined with the ability to play with like minded players who enjoy the interaction above comparing the size of their respective organs.

EQ1 has not become "old" although the utter dependance on specific classes within OoW is depressing as getting groups is extremely difficult. I would have thought LDoN would have finally taught people the value of the lfg window and the potential of non-traditional classes filling traditional roles but apparently not.

Raids like last night (which even though I missed I felt as excited as I am sure many of you did experiencing it first hand) are the opportunity to get to the EQ1 end game which I desire to see, but character progression and seeing much of the remaining content not tagged as "raid required" is important to me.

I think I can enjoy the character progression in EQ2 while limping along in EQ1. I know I can enjoy the raid content in EQ1 while waiting for a solid guild in EQ2. It would be nice to have both instantly but that is not going to happen so I see a gradual transition as others have stated.

After all is said and done - it is only a game. If I really wanted mindless content I would watch TV.

Although it is very early, I would be interested to hear about balance, content, the ability to solo and the (lf)group management system.

Although it is very early, I would be interested to hear about balance, content, the ability to solo and the (lf)group management system.

Balance:
If anything, people are complaining that it is "too balanced". IMO it is great. Class selection is largely personal preference. You just need one of every major type class at least, for a solid group. But mages melee all the time. Berserkers cast spells (they call them melee abilities, but trust me, they are printed on scrolls, scribed into your melee book, and use the same "mana bar" as spells, have cast times -- they are spells).

Content:
Excellent fun if you dig Norrath nostalgia. If you're the kind of person to re-read your favorite books, or if you dig prequels and sequels by alternate authors, then you will like the content. If you're tired of the world of Norrath, then EQ2's rehash of old material will feel like a ripoff to steal yet more of your money for the same content.

Soloing:
I hit 13 in 17 hours played, not one XP group. All quests. All solo, except two quest fights required a partner or two. Solo quests and mobs get scarce after 15. I expect EQ2 to develop into grouping mainly post-20, and raiding up closer to 50. I will say that the first 15-20 levels were a ton of fun for me, all 3 times I've done it so far.

LFG
It's still just LFG. Less functionality than EQ1, due to no LFP flag that I've seen. You can search for who is LFG, but the LFG's cannot search for the LFP's. Yet.

All of the above is just IMO, and based on levels 1-20. I suspect that at higher levels, most of the things you're asking about will be a lot like EQ1. The beginning levels have been fun and different though :)

As a last note, the punk SOE developers were holding back on us Beta testers. They broke a TON of stuff the last 3 weeks of Beta, then in release, life is largely bug-free (with lag issues still on the oldest servers). As a programmer, it's pretty obvious to me that they had their own integration test environment set up, and didn't put all the fixes into our Beta. It's the only way I can explain how they went downhill before release and then launched it pretty cleanly.

Honestly, this last week of EQ2 has been a blast for me. I currently have a lv 12 brawler/lv 11 Outfitter. I can take down orange con mobs fairly easy still. Content in the game seems fairly deep and almost every NPC seems to be willing to give you a quest.

Tradeskills are completely different and are very fun. You are much more active during the creation progress and involves a lot more than selecting the ingredients and hitting combine (managed to kill myself three times the other night trying to craft a sword).

I've seen a few minor things that need to be addressed, but over-all, I don't see anything yet that is stopping my progression.

Hope to see more of you there joining me on the evil side.

I plan on purchasing EQ2 for Pet sometime or another. Will most likely get it for him in the next week (time permitting) and let that be his holiday present.

I wouldn't mind checking it out myself but for right now I don't have alot of time to play, let alone sleep. Although, if I find time (yeah, right) I wouldn't mind seeing what all the fuss is about.

I bought him the expensive dvd set...with the cd set you get like 10 cds, compared to like 3 dvds. He also got himself a brand new cd-dvd rom, a new stick of memory, and a shiny new video card (I think he got a little spoiled, and I expect a shiny brand new VACATION for my present lol).

He has a lvl 13 monk thingy and says he enjoys doing the quests (surprised here since he hated quests in EQ1).
