If you are tend to play caster classes or other classes that can't really take much of a beating and ends up dying a lot, eq may not be for you.

If you are in a group killing and one member of the group dies, his experience debt is shared with the group.

here's an example

Soooo, my wife tried out an EQ2 raid today.

Shared exp death from raid deaths is shared only among the group, not the whole raid. She's a rogue and died twice. However, she was grouped with a healer that tended to die. (You know this is going to be ugly ...) She eventually gave up after getting over 4 yellow bars, yes, over 40% of a level, of exp debt. It's fucking insane. I could chain die/rez/die/rez 100 times in old EQ and never come close to that kind of exp loss. I gotta admit seeing that looooong line of red was kinda impressive.

Keep in mind that's all with rezzes. No unrezzed deaths.

This absolutely has to be fixed. or, if your class gets the reputation of dying a lot, you will NEVER get a group. Why would they want you? You are a liability the way this works..

one thing about the shared xp debt if you get in a bad group it will suck big time, but on the flip side I have been in groups where one or 2 of us died and it was not long before we had made up teh debt. Also xp debt will regenerate on its own if you are offline so say you go on a raid Mon night and rack up a couple bubbles of debt and have to log, you log in on say thurs night and your debt will be all gone or close to it. same with shards if you cannot retrieve any shards in three days you will automatically get them back.

Really the xp debt isn't much different than in eq live instead of losing a lvl and having to redo it over again you just have to work off the debt before advancing in the lvl anymore. When you get a rezz or recover your shard you do get a nice chunk of your xp debt back, usually takes me soloing about 5 or 6 kills to have recovered one death worths of debt. The biggest drawback to shared debt is it will end up killing alot of the pickup groups do to not knowing how the other people know their class.

It's a great system. It forces people to play smart and play with smart people. Don't knock it until you try it.

If, at the high-end, raid xp debt is busted, they'll fix it.

I'd ask what they were thinking of to implement this kind of a debt system, but that would assume they were thinking at all. I've been in way too many pickup groups and raids in EQ where folks "went LD" or had to log as soon as the group had some kind of mishap. If your exp debt is gradually erased while you're off line, there will be a lot of folks who'll log and play another game for a day or two till they've gotten the debt cleared. Why risk an even worse debt when all you need to do is go watch a movie or play a different game till it's gone?

If you're in a raid, XP debt should be shared across the raid. How many times has Rams died while pulling on a raid? Sometimes a dozen times on a single raid. If that was shared with just his group, we'd have to move folks around just so they'd come back for the next raid.

I prefer XP debt to losing XP; with XP debt you can't yo-yo across your latest level, losing new spells and abilities.

Also, if XP debt fades with time, you're motivating people to log off, like Vrinda said. You're giving people warm fuzzies for NOT PLAYING YOUR GAME. How asinine is that?

XP debt never dies. Never. The shard fades away after 3 days or something, and the debuffing effects also fade from having a shard in the world go away.

But not the debt.

You broke it? You bought it.

I can see it now. Heikko announces groups and immediately is flooded with tells saying, "Move me to a different group, please. I don't want to group with the puller / MA / crowd control because they die too often."

Lord I hope raids don't work like that. I'm guessing deaths on raids are shared with the raid. I will have to check the vox raid screenshots to see.

The only XP debt sharing mesages I see are within the person's group. You might be right on this one Vrinda, which would be a lousy design decision for raids. Bleh.

hhhmmm then I need to bug that Bawd because I died just before logging the other night got my shard logged on teh next morning and no debt. have done this a couple of times. and yes there was a big thing about that in the forums about the debt from raids not being shared raid wide.
