View Full Version : Tinkering help needed

Gnomes are a rarity in the guild as you might have noticed (no comments please), and therefore Tinkering is also rather limited.

Now I am not quite sure yet what value a Master Tinker might be to a guild, but for whatever reason I am progressing slowly up the ranks.

Tinkering skill is now 150 and I am up to making Rebreathers. Combine cost is a tad shy of 1000pp per combine, which for skill ups is just insane (they trivial at 175).

OoW introduced some new recipes one of which uses what seems to me to be a fairly common drop (http://www.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=30726 - Damaged Muramite Battle Blade). The item sells for nothing at vendors and therefore is either in the bazaar or destroyed by most looters.

If you can collect these for me it would be greatly appreciated. The trivial on them is 225, and there might well be a minimum to perform the combine, but for a 2 item combine at almost no cost, they would be perfect.

I am also in need of coiled springs for a later combine. These are a little different as I think they only drop in POI and they do sell for a few plat. If anyone farms POI or visits for fun, or the Gnome walk please grab these if you can.

Thanks!!

I have a 160 in tinkering. I was using my spare plat to raise it before Omens came out, but now I'm saving all my plat for runes. Maybe after I buy all my 66/67/68 spells I can raise it again.

I forgot about this post. I got Chrysea up to 140 over the weekend from scratch, for about 2-3k. I had to farm porous mineral blocks for brewing geerloks in Netherbian, though. That, and found some waterlogged rigging in Gunthak, and some guildies donated some much appreciated acrylia for smithing geerloks.

The geerloks all trivial over 200, and they don't cost anything like 1000pp per combine, even if you just buy the acrylia in the bazaar.

Geerlok Automated Hammer
(I think all of these are available from Shadowhaven vendors, except the acrylia -- hammer is from the dwarf smith, rest is from gnome)
gears 7pp3gp
gnomish bolts 2p8gp
grease 2pp3gp
small piece of acrylia 35-40pp in bazaar, or free from guildies :)
smithy hammer 10pp5gp
sprockets 7pp3gp

Trivials at 215.

So about 75pp or so per combine.

If you farm porous mineral blocks from greens in Netherbian, you can do:

Geerlok Fermentation Device
(all purchased items available on Shadowhaven tinker vendors)
bottle 5cp
ceramic lined still 2pp1gp
cork 1c
cured leather tubing 7gp
porous mineral block - free!

Which is VERY cheap for a combine that will also take you to 215.

By the way, for everyone else;
I have several brewing geerloks and smithing geerloks on my trader, free to guildies, just gotta stop by and get my attention so I can give it to you.

I was only able to make ONE tinkering geerlok (trivial 236 -- took like 8 attempts; I was lucky to get that) with the materials I had, and it's MINE MINE MINE!! hehe

Thanks for the great suggestions. I bought all of the acrylia in the bazaar (5000pp) and then proceded to make the hammers. Approximately 150 combines later (the smithy hammers and geerlok hammers of course dont stack :( ) I had managed to raise tinkering by about 15 points to 165. Total cost was about 7500pp.

Its a tough choice. The rebreathers cost 1000pp but sell for 800(?) and being closer to the ideal trivial level would probably cost less for the same number of skill ups.

Obviously farming is the way to go, but the thought of getting 150 to 200 farmed items, most of which do not stack, is daunting.

Oh well - Master Tinkerer is probably worth the effort??
Back to the tinkering.....

If you need any more acrylia, instead of buying it :P, let me know. I believe I have some of the bigger blocks, and can break it into pieces (if that's what you need, I know K2 needed it) with my cleric. Contact me via pm or whatever chat service I have listed :D.

Just a quick note on this - managed to get Cat up to 220 Tinkering eventually. The next combines seem to all require farmed items, none of which are readily available in the bazaar (e.g. Coiled springs from POI - 100pp each).

I will be relying now on donations of tinkering type items from anyone who happens to visit POI.

My Cleric-Bot, Morkath, is at 252 Tinkering with Tradeskill Trophy if anyone needs something combined :)
