If I quit EQ 1 It wont be for EQ 2, or any other MRPG. My freinds are here and I am not leaving them.

Well I do have EQ2; in fact I have both my accounts with EQ2 tied to them. I have not actually been on it for several months now. I would not really compare it to EQ though. While it does have many of the same concepts and names it’s a completely new game. The biggest problem with EQ2 is it does not hold my attention for long. Over all EQ2 is a good game and anyone getting tired of EQ I would suggest making the move over to it because it maybe what you are looking for.

As far as me its not that I feel I have too much time invested in EQ, and I do have as much as most of the other EQ old timers it’s that there is too much in EQ I still want to see. Its not just raid mob/zones I would like to see both there are many zones in the game I have spent little to no time in and wish to see more of. There are many classes I personally have not played to their peeks and want to play through to that point on myself.

So for me while you may see me on from time to time if I ever make a complete move to EQ2 it will not be for along time. I would urge anyone though who does enjoy EQ to not say they will never play EQ2 because it is a very fun game, and worth a try.

Sorry Deviant, I wish you the best luck in EQ2 and I will be sure to say hello anytime I see you or anyone else on.

I only mention this because I see the comment an awful lot....I find it hard to imagine anything about my time in EQ1 as an investment, except the building of online friendships. I would delete my toons in a flash, anytime.

EQ2 is fun whether it is the novelty or the gameplay. EQ1 is fun, especially seeing content that few get to see. EQ1 is not fun sitting LFG for 2 hours because there are no groups and solo content does not exist. EQ2 is not fun when there are no friends to share in an achievement or some good old hack n slash.

life is a balancing act
friends > all
pixels are not an investment

EQ1 is not fun sitting LFG for 2 hours because there are no groups and solo content does not exist.

This is one major problem with EQ1. SOME classes can solo: druid, necro, bard, enchanter, beastlord. To a lesser extent: mage, SK. That leads to contention between classes that will never go away until solo content at all levels for all classes does exist.

The other, bigger problem, is poor design decisions on SOE's part. Personally, I think POP will kill EQ because it created a disparity between the "haves" (elemental, time) and "have nots" (non uber raiders). What non uber guild will ever see Time? What non-Time guild can ever hope to get to Qvic? What guild that hasn't done elementals and Time and GoD can routinely hunt in Riftseekers? Tanks are at a disadvantage because they rely solely on gear. A VT-geared cleric or druid or enchanter or any other caster can function just about anywhere. A VT-geared tank cannot. WoS and RCoD itemization help, but it's a catch-22; it's very hard to tank in WoS and RCoD unless you're a big fat tank. And impossible to do so in MPG/RSS.

I'm not interested in EQ2 currently. I may be in the FAR future, but at the moment, I don't feel like dumping 4 years of play down the toilet to try seomthing that, from what I've seen, is only marginally better. My brother plays it, and I have sat with him checking it out. The graphics are great, if you have a sickly expensive computer (which I don't). And as a game it's somewhat more user friendly, tho I'm not sure how much "better" it really is. When I have played EQ1 out and there's nothing left for me to explore, then mabe I'll take the new challenge and try the next generation of EQ, but untill then, I view it as pointless.

I don't know whether you missed my point Manny - or were just making a new one. K2 summed it up pretty well I thought....

what it comes down to for me is that I enjoy playing MMORPG's, with the emphasis on playing. Sitting lfg is not playing and not enjoyable with ONE exception...and that is I can easily sit for 2 hours doing nothing just chatting with my EQ1 friends. I could care less for graphics personally......I still have fun with Zork and remember fondly the Leather Goddesses of Phobos!!!! I like content - plain and simple.

If I could do something in EQ1 that was enjoyable when there is no guild raid or not enough guild members for a group I would (and will) be all over it. I am not dumping anything down the toilet by playing EQ2, I am just making the most of my limited (at the moment) play time and having some fun. I am also not trying to be an evangelist for EQ2. I wish SOE would fix or add some solo content to EQ1, or merge some servers. They will never fix idiot pick up groups and they will never fix itemisation as K2 points out. I congratulate all the 5 to 6k clerics and all the 12k tanks for making the right choice 2 to 4 years ago for a character with longevity and utility. That you could probably very easily take a group of 3 clerics and 3 tanks into RS and do OK paints a dismal future of where EQ1 is headed.

In spite of all I said - I still don't care - coz I enjoy Amichi and my other friends and I am looking forward to a powerful guild visiting Time and beyond.....and when its over, its time for the next game, whatever that turns out to be....no regrets, no sense of lost investment, no negative feelings at all.

EQ2 is not fun when there are no friends to share in an achievement or some good old hack n slash.

That is the biggest reason why Lars and I hesitate to log in...we have all these people on our friends list (a lot of them Amichi) but when we log in no one we know is ever on. Kinda makes you feel lonely. We did run into Besch in game one day, and that was a lot of fun, but so far our only encounter with a friend. So in the meantime we spend our play time either in EQ or in AO where we know people. Maybe when Cat gets back to EST we will be able to catch him in game more often since Lars and I are on the west coast.

If SoE does the class revamps they are thinking about they may fix some of this. If it will I really do not know. Everyone always down talks SoE in general but SoE is also who made EQ2. They did something there right. I don't know /shrug. I do understand the frustration though.

Trust me I know what you all are talking about with time invested in eq1 and not knowing many people on eq2. The times I play eq1 only 1 or 2 people I know are on if that so that part isnt the same for me as it is you all.

The "have" and "have nots" that you bring up in eq1 is ever so true. As far as raiding in EQ2 I hear people bitching all the time about not gettin outlandish drops off hard mobs. The guild effort is directed in different ways in eq2. Your guild has a "level" and anyone at any time can work toward raising your guilds level individualy or in a group. As your guild attains higher levels you get many added benefits, all guilds have the same opportunity whether they can get 100 players on at the same time in perfect harmony to kill the hardest mob in the game or only are able to get a group of 6...it isnt based on hardcore playing or numbers of people a guild is able to have logged in at the same time.

Another feature was added a few days ago called "vitality" as real time goes by your vitality will progress from 0 to 100 (takes 7 days to fill up). It is directed for people that only have an hour or 2 to play a day or less, as long as you have vitality all experience you get is doubled, tradeskill or regular. As you get experience your vitality slowly goes down, so if you are a hardcore player you will only be getting normal experience most of the time. It seems to me that the vitality earned from 1 real life day takes about 2 hours of play to go through...makes a huge difference and cuts down greatly on the time sink of playing if you have a job and dont want to sit in front of the computer all day.

I also noticed when i signed up for eq2 that if you get the "extended package" ($20)of eq2 along with added in game benefits it gives you access to other games like eq1 for free, I am still in my 1 month free trial so not sure how it works yet. if that is the case, $20 for eq1 and eq2 would be a nice way for people to play both games at once...that is my intent if it works.
