I was reading the MSN home page today (5/6/05) and found a review of the Hitchiker's guide to the Galaxy which recieved 4 stars in their Entertainment section. :abduct: . Has anyone else in the guild besides me seen this movie or is planning on doing so and what do you think of it?

Personally I loved it I thought it was well done and Very funny. Also I spotted 2 scenes that didn't happen in the book that i can rember period am I wrong? The two scenes were the ones involving the Visit to Planet Vogonsphere (home of the Vogons) and the POV gun sequence where they find a gun in Deep Thought that makes others temporarily see the weilder's POV for a short time when it is used on them. :fez: :bookworm:

I have never read the book, but Lars and I went and saw the movie last night. I thought it was pretty funny.

Loved it, although the little kids who were kicking my seat seemed bored.

I gott agree with you Mann you don't let 2 little kids see this movie usually unless they have read the book. Most of the jokes are not ones that you get without reading the book first not because they are hard to get but because they are just that Obscure :thwack: :thwack: :thwack:

Sad part is... there were like 5 ppl in there with 3, 4 and one even with 5 kids with them and ;they all had to sit right around me, I wish there were adult only theatres ( that didn't play X rated films ) lol.

Here in Indianapolis there used to be a couple of what I believe were called dinner Theateres that were kinda like that. The problem with opening a theatre like that is that those who have kids might protest you opening such a place because they may consider themselves to be descriminated against cause they have kids and you don't and they can't understand why you don't want to go to a movie with a few possibly noisy rug rats. :fez: :bookworm:

As long as you have a couple child friendly auditoriums along with the adult ones I'm sure there's be no problem, someone with some money open one up in Fort Myers :p

Am planning to see this Sunday, but will be interested to see how it compares to the book, the radio show and the TV series. Will not say which I saw on first run, and which i had to buy in Virgin Records.....

Needless to say this is a classic british book written with classic english humour. The radio version was better than the book. The TV series stuck true to the author's intent. Adams was a perfectionist, and the fact this movie was started shortly after he died suggests that someone was really waiting to avoid his undoubted criticism and probable censorship/restrictions. The reviews in england are mostly very poor, the movie was butchered, and the humour lost in the clever digital imaging.

Still....any fan of the book has to see it with their own eyes.... like many things, sometimes you don't have to know the history to appreciate the present. Some books were never meant to be movies, some songs were never meant to be covered....

saw this yesterday and it was barely passable. The humour was fine, but the characters were not very well developed, the focus on Deep Thought was out of scope with the book. Trillian does not like Arthur yet she kissed him???? Vogonsphere was OK, the POV gun was stupid ... both were not in the book. The towel was not explained, the white mice were like random inserts, way too many scenes with the Vogs, like they probably paid too much for the muppet effects. Slarty's piece was probably the coolest piece of the movie....and the funniest part had to be the petunias / sperm whale.
