I watched the new series "live" so to speak, while I have been commuting to the UK. Overall I was very impressed. The series retains a lot of the humour from the original concept, the monsters have all been updated but are still a little hokey and the Doctor himself is superb. His assistant takes a little time to warm up to, but in the end I thought she was a great choice too.

Well worth watching if you are an original Doctor Who fan.

The hokey-ness is all a part of the Dr. Who charm. I caught a few episodes in the past (the old John Baker episodes) and I enjoyed them, but considering the long history, I felt out of touch with all of the inside references.

Is the SciFi channel Dr. Who going to be the latest series, or old ones?

With the BBC channel you can bet these are gonna be the new ones. I watched the old ones on PBS back in the 19ahrum's

I actually meant "hokey" as a compliment to the days of "bubble wrap and green spray paint" monsters. As a kid I used to hide (along with millions of others) behind the sofa. Take a look at the Cybermen in an out of context screen shot and you would laugh at the childish effects, and then watch them with in the show for one of the scareist and evilest monster to ever grace the TV screen. The imaginations stirred up by the writers and actors was on a par with other sci fi classics since such as V, Blakes Seven, and almost certainly the X Files. It was a huge legacy the new Doctor had to compete against, and I think they did an admirable job.

As you can tell I am a fan.

and p.s. it was Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee who played probably the most memorable Doctors.

I've been lucky enough to have watched the new series of the Doctor...
Season 2 shoudl be finished taping atm and they're supposed to be coming out with it soon...
I also heard that the DVD of Season 1 (9th Doctor) was out already...

I won't spoil what happens and all, but needless to say I've been a fan since John Pertwee (3rd Doctor) and even with that horrible US Doctor Who movie, this new one brings back the charm and love I had from the beginning !
